What is LIC’s ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ for women?
The Bima Sakhi Yojana is a transformative initiative launched by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), designed to empower women, particularly in rural areas, by providing them with employment and financial independence. The scheme aims to train and support women aged 18-70 years, who have passed at least class 10, to become insurance agents (known as Bima Sakhis).
The scheme will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Panipat, Haryana, on Monday.
Key Features of the Bima Sakhi Yojana:
Training & Employment: Under this program, one lakh women across India will be trained to work as LIC agents. These women will not only learn about the life insurance industry but will also gain the skills needed to sell insurance policies and promote financial literacy within their communities.
Financial Support: The women selected for the program will receive a monthly stipend during their training their training period.
- Rs 7,000 for the first year
- Rs 6,000 for the second year
- Rs 5,000 for the third year
This stipend helps ensure that the women are financially supported while they learn and develop as LIC agents.
Empowering Rural Women: The primary objective of the Bima Sakhi Yojana is to provide rural women with job opportunities and access to a stable income, especially in areas where employment options for women are limited.
Promoting Financial Literacy: The women will not only sell insurance policies but will also play an active role in raising awareness about financial literacy and insurance, helping to create a more informed and financially secure community.
